This bill creates a new Office of Colonias and Farmworker Initiatives within the Department of Agriculture to improve services and support for farmworkers, their families, and residents of border colonias communities. The office will work to increase equitable access to USDA programs, coordinate outreach efforts across federal agencies, and provide technical assistance to organizations serving these populations. The bill also establishes a Colonias Coordinator position within the office and creates a federal coordinating committee with representatives from nine federal agencies including HUD, EPA, and the Department of Labor to address cross-agency issues affecting these communities. The legislation authorizes $2.5 million in funding annually from 2024 through 2029 to support these initiatives.
