This bill directs the Environmental Protection Agency to establish federal clean water standards specifically for PFAS, a group of highly persistent chemicals used in numerous industrial and consumer products. The EPA must create water quality criteria within three years and set pollution limits for seven major industry categories between 2025 and 2027, including manufacturers of plastics, textiles, electroplating operations, and landfills. The legislation also requires immediate monitoring of PFAS discharges from these industries and several others, such as airports and paper mills, with the EPA determining by the end of 2025 whether to develop standards for additional sources. The bill authorizes $212 million over five years for the EPA to carry out these requirements, with $200 million specifically designated for grants to help water treatment facilities address PFAS contamination.
