This bill directs the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide Florida with an $80 million block grant to help address timber losses caused by Hurricanes Michael and Florence. The funds would come from unobligated money that was previously set aside for forest restoration programs. Florida would distribute the grant money to qualified landowners in the state who suffered timber losses, with each eligible landowner able to receive assistance for up to 10,000 acres of damaged land. The bill also allows participation from landowners who were previously ineligible due to insufficient timber crop-loss insurance coverage. The Agriculture Secretary must make these funds available within 90 days of the bill becoming law.
