The Promoting Rural Exports Act of 2023 creates a new Rural Export Center within the U.S. Commerce Department's Commercial Service to help rural businesses access international markets. The Center must be established within one year at an existing Commercial Service office, preferably in a non-metropolitan area with existing expertise in supporting rural exporters. Rural businesses will be able to access customized market research services focused on up to three international markets at a time, along with strategic planning and export support tailored to their specific products and needs. The Center will track its success by measuring how many businesses participate, what export services they use afterward, and the total export value generated from its assistance. The legislation aims to address geographic disadvantages that rural companies face in reaching export markets by consolidating resources and expertise specifically for their use.
