This bill directs Congress to obtain a statue of Shirley Chisholm, the groundbreaking congresswoman and civil rights advocate, for permanent display in the United States Capitol building. The Joint Committee of Congress on the Library has two years from the bill's enactment to reach an agreement to commission or acquire the statue and arrange for its placement in a public location within the Capitol. The bill authorizes whatever funding is necessary to complete the project, with appropriated funds remaining available until fully spent. The Joint Committee may delegate the actual contract negotiations to the Architect of the Capitol if needed. This measure honors Chisholm's historic legacy as the first Black woman elected to Congress and the first Black candidate to run for a major party's presidential nomination.
