This bill increases housing assistance for military parents who use GI Bill benefits to pursue education online. Specifically, it allows parents of dependent children who take online courses on more than a half-time basis to receive the same monthly housing stipend they would get if they were attending classes in person at a campus in their local area. Previously, distance learning students received reduced or no housing stipends under the Post-9/11 GI Bill program. The changes take effect for the first academic year after the bill becomes law and apply to all subsequent academic years.
