This bill, called the Secure Airports From Enemies Act or SAFE Act, would prohibit individuals connected to countries that support terrorism from accessing sensitive areas of U.S. airports. The Transportation Security Administration would be required to deny access to airport secured areas, security identification display areas, sterile areas, and air cargo areas for anyone representing or acting on behalf of designated terrorist-supporting countries. The countries subject to this restriction would be those the Secretary of State has determined provide repeated support for international terrorism under existing federal laws, based on determinations made within the three years prior to an individual's airport visit. The bill does not specify new funding or implementation timelines, instead amending existing airport security law to add this new restriction. Senators Rubio and Scott of Florida introduced the bill in June 2024.
