The SCREEN for Type 1 Diabetes Act of 2024 directs the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to launch a national public awareness campaign aimed at increasing detection, screening, and management of type 1 diabetes among both healthcare providers and the general public. The campaign will include written materials, public service announcements across multiple media platforms, and culturally tailored resources targeted at communities experiencing the highest rates of type 1 diabetes. The legislation authorizes $5 million annually from fiscal years 2025 through 2029 to support the campaign, with funds allocated for grants to nonprofit organizations to develop and implement the campaign and additional grants to state, local, and tribal health departments to increase screening access in their communities. Within one year of enactment, the Secretary of Health and Human Services must report to Congress on the campaign's effectiveness and its impact on type 1 diabetes awareness and screening rates.
