This bill aims to strengthen military cooperation between the United States and Jordan by streamlining defense equipment sales and joint defense projects. For three years following enactment, Jordan will receive expedited treatment similar to close U.S. allies when purchasing American defense articles and military equipment under existing arms export laws. The legislation directs the Secretary of Defense to work with Jordan's Minister of Defense to develop capabilities for countering Iranian air and missile threats, including unmanned aircraft systems, with both countries sharing research and development costs under a formal agreement. Additionally, the bill requires the Defense Department to develop a plan by March 1, 2025, for Jordan to participate in a multinational air and missile defense system protecting against threats from Iran and Iranian-linked groups. The Secretary of State is also authorized to establish a memorandum of understanding that could increase economic and military support, joint exercises, and strategic dialogue with Jordan, with all authorities expiring on December 31, 2028.
