The Military and Educational Data Integration Act authorizes the Department of Defense to create a secure system for sharing military service data with state education agencies and local school districts. Within 18 months of enactment, the Defense Secretary must develop this process in consultation with the Education Secretary, state and local education officials, military leaders, and data privacy experts. The system would allow states to access information about their high school graduates who have entered military service, including their education level, test scores, military rank, specialty, and service dates, with data updated at least annually and maintained in an anonymous format to protect privacy. States could then integrate this information into their education data systems to track how their secondary school graduates perform in military careers. The bill includes requirements to comply with all applicable federal, state, and local privacy laws to safeguard individual data security.
