The FDIC Discrimination Relief Act of 2024 provides legal protections and remedies for employees of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation who experienced discrimination between January 2015 and December 2023. The bill allows covered employees to skip the normal administrative complaint process and file lawsuits directly in federal court within one year of the law's enactment, addressing violations of federal laws prohibiting discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, and pregnancy. Employees can also pursue administrative remedies within 180 days if they prefer. The legislation removes the government's sovereign immunity defense in these cases, meaning the FDIC and federal government can be held financially liable for discrimination just like private employers, and prevailing employees can recover attorney's fees from the government.
