The Better Care for PFAS Patients Act directs the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry to work with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to assess health effects from PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, commonly known as "forever chemicals") and develop clinical guidance for treating people exposed to these substances. The Director must enter into this agreement within 60 days of the bill's passage and complete the initial assessment within 2 years, with updates every 5 years or more frequently if warranted by new scientific evidence. The bill requires the agency to consult with communities affected by PFAS exposure and gather their input on testing and treatment experiences. Within 5 years of the agreement, the agency must publish updated clinical guidance and distribute it to state and local health authorities and healthcare providers. The legislation addresses a growing public health concern as PFAS chemicals have been found in drinking water supplies and human blood samples across the United States.
