The SEARCH Act of 2023 requires federal executive agencies to improve their website search functions by adopting the latest available technology to help the public find information and services more easily. Within one year of the bill's enactment, the Office of Management and Budget must issue guidance to agencies on how to modernize their search capabilities. Each agency's chief information officer then has 180 days to submit an implementation plan that includes timelines, cost estimates, and expected outcomes. One year after the guidance is issued, agencies must report to Congress on their progress, challenges, and solutions. The law exempts national security systems from these requirements and takes effect 90 days after enactment.
