To amend title XXVII of the Public Health Service Act to require group health plans and health insurance issuers offering group or individual health insurance coverage to permit enrollees to obtain a 365-day supply of contraceptives.
This bill requires health insurance plans and insurers to allow people to get up to a year's worth of contraceptives in a single purchase without paying out-of-pocket costs. The requirement applies to both group health plans offered through employers and individual insurance policies purchased directly. The law would take effect for plan years beginning January 1, 2024, and does not appear to include new federal funding. The bill also directs the Secretaries of Health and Human Services, Labor, and Treasury to spend 90 days after the bill's enactment informing healthcare providers and the public about this new benefit requirement.
