This bill would retroactively apply a federal law protecting veterans' educational benefits going back to August 1, 2021. The law addresses a specific situation where veterans attended educational programs that were later closed or discontinued, and their credits did not transfer to other schools. Under the current rules, veterans who cannot transfer their credits from these closed or disapproved programs lose some of their GI Bill benefits as if they had completed the program. The bill would make sure this benefit-reduction rule applies retroactively to all affected veterans from August 2021 through September 2023, rather than only going forward from when the law was initially enacted.
