The STOP CCP Act would authorize the President to impose sanctions on members of China's top Communist Party leadership organizations, including the Politburo, Central Military Commission, and Central Committee, as well as their adult family members. These sanctions target individuals responsible for specific conduct the President determines to include violations of Hong Kong's autonomy, aggression toward Taiwan and other regional neighbors, human rights abuses against Uyghurs and Tibetans, and forced labor practices. The sanctions involve freezing assets in the United States and denying these individuals visas and entry to America. The President must implement the sanctions within 30 days of the law's enactment and can only waive them temporarily for national security reasons for up to two years, after which waiver authority expires. Sanctions could be lifted only if China verifiably ceases the activities cited in the bill, including ending alleged genocide in Xinjiang and military aggression toward Taiwan, or if individual targets renounce Communist Party membership and take steps to remedy their conduct.
