The Sanctions Lists Harmonization Act requires federal agencies that maintain different sanctions lists to coordinate with each other when adding individuals or entities to their lists. Currently, six major sanctions lists are maintained by the Treasury Department, Commerce Department, and Defense Department, but they operate independently without systematic coordination. Under this bill, when an agency adds someone to its sanctions list, it must notify other relevant agencies within 30 days, and those agencies must review the person or entity within 30 days and make a determination within 90 days about whether to add them to their own lists. The bill also requires each agency to report to Congress within one year certifying their compliance with these coordination requirements and explaining their review process. This legislation aims to close gaps where individuals or entities could be sanctioned by one agency but not others, creating inconsistent enforcement across the government.
