This bill requires members of Congress to disclose their financial interests in cryptocurrency to the public. Members and their spouses and dependent children must report any cryptocurrency purchases, sales, or exchanges exceeding $1,000 during the previous calendar year, as well as identify any cryptocurrency holdings they currently own. Members must file transaction reports within 45 days of being notified of any required cryptocurrency transaction. The bill establishes penalties for non-compliance, including fines of at least $500 or five percent of the unreported cryptocurrency value for missed filing deadlines, and civil penalties of at least $66,000 or five percent of the value for knowingly falsifying or failing to disclose required information. The legislation applies the same disclosure requirements that already exist for other financial assets held by members of Congress.
