The Expanding Service Coordinators Act amends federal housing law to strengthen and expand support for service coordinators who help residents of federally assisted housing access services and support. The bill authorizes $225 million annually through 2028 for existing service coordinator programs, plus an additional $45 million annually for services to public and Indian housing residents and $37 million in 2024 for new grants to fund 150 service coordinators in housing developments that received federal tax credits. The legislation requires housing owners to set aside at least $2,500 per year for service coordinator training, eliminates barriers that prevent housing projects from applying for grants, and makes service coordinator work eligible for federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness program benefits for student loans. The bill also directs a government study of service coordination in rural housing projects to identify gaps and best practices for serving residents in less populated areas.
