The White Oak Resilience Act of 2024 directs the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Department of the Interior to launch a coordinated national effort to restore and regenerate white oak forests across the country. The legislation establishes a White Oak Restoration Initiative Coalition to coordinate efforts among federal, state, local, private, and nonprofit organizations, and requires both departments to carry out pilot projects in national forests and on Interior Department lands to test white oak restoration practices. The bill also creates a voluntary grant program administered through the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to provide funding and technical assistance for white oak restoration on public and private lands, establishes research initiatives through land-grant universities focused on white oak genetics and resilience, and directs the development of a national strategy to address shortages of white oak seedlings in nurseries. The Coalition must submit a comprehensive report to Congress within two years detailing its activities and recommendations for improving federal and state policies that affect white oak restoration.
