The Remembering Our Local Heroes Act directs the Secretary of the Interior to create a grant program funding the construction, restoration, renovation, and maintenance of memorials honoring veterans, law enforcement officers, and firefighters. Local governments and nonprofit organizations can apply for grants, with priority given to projects demonstrating strong community support and memorializing individuals who performed exemplary public service or acts of bravery. Each grant is capped at $100,000, with recipients required to provide matching funds equal to at least 50 percent of the grant amount, and no entity can receive more than one grant per fiscal year. The bill authorizes $2 million annually for fiscal years 2024 through 2028 to support the program, which must be established within six months of the law's enactment.
