This bill directs the Department of Homeland Security to establish a paid cybersecurity internship program, amending the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to create this initiative permanently within the agency. To qualify, applicants must be U.S. citizens at least 16 years old who are enrolled in a secondary school, technical or vocational school, or a college or university. DHS must strive to include students from a range of educational backgrounds in each intern class, spanning high schools, community colleges, undergraduate and graduate programs, and vocational schools, with particular outreach encouraged toward historically Black colleges and other minority-serving institutions. Interns would perform cybersecurity-related duties matched to their skill level and area of study within various DHS components. The bill also requires DHS to report annually to relevant congressional committees, starting one year after enactment, detailing recruitment efforts, participant demographics by school type, and the nature of interns' work assignments.
