The Truckee Meadows Special Account Establishment Act directs how the federal government should distribute money from selling Bureau of Land Management and National Forest System land in Washoe County, Nevada. When such land is sold, 5 percent of the proceeds go to Nevada for education programs, 10 percent goes to Washoe County and the cities of Reno and Sparks for conservation projects along the Truckee River, and the remaining 85 percent is deposited into a special Treasury account. The special account funds various projects including land acquisition, wildfire prevention, park and trail development, forest restoration, and environmental improvements in the county and Lake Tahoe Basin, with the Secretary of the Interior and Secretary of Agriculture overseeing the spending.
