This bill authorizes the U.S. Treasury to mint commemorative coins honoring Roberto Clemente, the legendary Puerto Rican baseball player and humanitarian. The coins would include up to 50,000 gold five-dollar coins, 400,000 silver one-dollar coins, and 750,000 half-dollar clad coins, all bearing Clemente's image and issued during 2027. The coins will feature designs reflecting Clemente's baseball career, civil rights activism, and philanthropic work, selected in consultation with the Clemente Foundation, his family, and the Commission of the Fine Arts. Sales of the coins will include surcharges of thirty-five dollars per gold coin, ten dollars per silver coin, and five dollars per half-dollar coin, with all surcharge revenues going to the Roberto Clemente Foundation for educational, youth sports, disaster relief, and historic preservation programs. The government will incur no net costs since design and production expenses must be recovered before any surcharge money is distributed to the Foundation.
