The Climate Adaptation Science Centers Act directs the Secretary of the Interior to establish a National Climate Adaptation Science Center and at least nine Regional Climate Adaptation Science Centers to help federal and state agencies, tribal governments, and other organizations adapt to climate change and extreme weather events. The centers will conduct research, provide scientific expertise, offer training, and share information about managing natural resources, cultural resources, and ecosystem services in the face of climate impacts. The centers will be administered by the United States Geological Survey and will operate through partnerships with universities, tribal colleges, historically Black colleges and universities, state agencies, Indian tribes, and other organizations. The bill establishes an Advisory Committee on Climate and Natural Resource Sciences to help guide the centers' priorities and operations, and requires the Secretary to conduct merit reviews of each regional center every five years to ensure quality performance. The legislation does not specify funding amounts or timelines beyond requiring the advisory committee to be established within 180 days of enactment and authorizing the Director of the Geological Survey to enter into contracts, grants, and cooperative agreements with partner institutions subject to the availability of appropriations.
