The Natural Disaster Education and Outreach Act of 2024 requires the federal government's top ocean and atmosphere official to establish a public communications program focused on weather and climate patterns, with the goal of helping communities prepare for and understand climate-related risks before disasters strike. The program would share climate assessments and information about changing weather patterns with the general public, local governments, and community leaders to support better resource planning and preparedness decisions. To carry out this effort, the bill establishes a working group to identify the most effective ways to share information through public campaigns, educational materials, and outreach to local officials and educators. The legislation authorizes three million dollars annually from fiscal year 2025 through 2028 for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to implement the program.
