This bill requires the Department of Defense to conduct an updated assessment of public schools located on military installations, looking at their current capacity and facility condition needs. The Secretary of Defense must submit this updated report to Congress within one year of the bill's enactment, considering any changes that have occurred since the last assessment in 2017 and including schools that were previously left out of earlier reviews. The bill also increases the number of school projects eligible for federal funding support from 38 to 71 projects under existing appropriations programs that have already received money. Additionally, the Government Accountability Office must evaluate how the military installation school improvement program operates, including whether funds are being used effectively and how well the program is meeting its goals, with that evaluation due within 180 days of the Defense Department's report.
