The Wildfire Intelligence Collaboration and Coordination Act of 2024 establishes a new Wildfire Intelligence Center jointly operated by the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, and Interior to improve how the government predicts, monitors, and responds to wildfires. The Center will serve as a centralized hub providing real-time scientific analysis, fire behavior forecasting, and decision-support services to federal, state, tribal, and local governments, emergency responders, land managers, and communities. It will consolidate existing wildfire data and research scattered across multiple agencies, create a unified IT system for information sharing, and develop tools to help communities prepare for and respond to wildfires, including assistance with evacuation planning and air quality monitoring. The Center will be governed by a 14-member board representing various federal agencies and will have an Executive Director with authority to hire staff and enter into contracts. The bill requires the Center to establish permanent headquarters within one year and requires the three secretaries to cooperatively administer it, with the ability to transfer funds between their agencies, subject to congressional notification.
