This bill directs the Architect of the Capitol to study whether the Capitol Power Plant can be retrofitted to use an advanced nuclear reactor instead of its current natural gas system. The study must be conducted in consultation with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Department of Energy, and should examine technical feasibility, environmental impacts, costs, safety requirements, emergency planning, and workforce needs. The Architect must complete the feasibility study within two years and hold at least two public sessions to inform the community about the project. The bill requires the Architect to submit a report to Congress within 60 days of completing the study with findings and a final recommendation on whether retrofitting is feasible. The legislation uses existing, unobligated funds from the Office of the Architect of the Capitol, so it does not require new appropriations.
