The No CORRUPTION Act would stop pension payments to members of Congress who are convicted of certain federal crimes. Currently, convicted members can continue receiving their congressional pensions even while incarcerated, and this bill would halt those payments for any convictions that occur after the law takes effect. The legislation applies only to pension benefits earned through congressional service, and individuals would regain their pension payments if their conviction is overturned on appeal. The bill was referred to the House Committee on Administration and the Committee on Oversight and Accountability in September 2023 for consideration. This measure affects current and former members of Congress and their federal pension eligibility under federal retirement law.
