The Streamline Emergency Care Act authorizes the federal government to award grants of up to $500,000 each to nonprofit hospitals and health care providers for improving their emergency room operations. Eligible organizations can use the grant money to hire emergency room staff, purchase modern equipment, or provide training to help existing employees work more efficiently in emergency settings. The program is authorized to receive $20 million annually from fiscal year 2024 through 2028, totaling $100 million over five years. The Department of Health and Human Services will administer the grant program and must report to Congress by the end of fiscal year 2027 on how well the program is working and what impact the grants have had on emergency room operations.
