The resolution requires Mayorkas to file a written answer to impeachment charges within seven session days and allows House prosecutors to file a response within the same timeframe. It creates a special 12-member Senate committee that will be appointed by the Presiding Officer based on recommendations from the majority and minority leaders, with six senators from each party. The committee has 90 calendar days to gather evidence, hear witness testimony, and submit a comprehensive report to the full Senate. The Senate will then convene as a Court of Impeachment approximately 90 days after the committee is appointed to conduct the full trial, with the special committee authorized to terminate 45 days after the Senate issues its verdict. Expenses for the committee's staff and operations will be paid from the Senate's contingent fund.
