This bill requires the Department of Labor to study how automation is affecting American workers and jobs. The Secretary of Labor must ask the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to conduct a comprehensive study examining job creation, job losses, job displacement, and changes in skill demands caused by automation, with a report due to Congress within two years. The bill also establishes an advisory board with representatives from state workforce boards, labor unions, businesses, nonprofits, and academic experts to provide recommendations on addressing automation's workforce impacts and identify what additional data the government should collect. Within one year of receiving the study, the Labor Department must publish a plan for how the Bureau of Labor Statistics will respond to the findings and implement new data collection methods. The advisory board will then annually recommend workforce development strategies based on the government's automation measurements starting four years after the bill's enactment.
