The Wildfire Resilient Communities Act provides $30 billion in mandatory funding to federal land management agencies—including the Forest Service, National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, and Fish and Wildlife Service—to carry out hazardous fuels reduction projects such as prescribed burns, thinning, and brush removal on federal lands. The bill prioritizes projects in areas at high risk of wildfire, near communities vulnerable to fire damage, and in high-value watersheds, while also requiring these efforts to align with national wildfire management strategies. The legislation also authorizes an additional $3 billion for the community wildfire defense grant program from fiscal years 2027 through 2031 and increases funding for collaborative forest restoration partnerships from $80 million to $100 million annually. Additionally, the bill establishes a County Stewardship Fund that returns 25 percent of receipts from timber sales and other contracts on federal lands back to counties for any local governmental purposes. No more than 10 percent of the main $30 billion allocation may be used for administrative and planning costs, with the remaining funds dedicated directly to on-the-ground wildfire mitigation work.
