Referred to the House Committee on Appropriations.
This bill would ensure that certain federal employees and military personnel continue to receive paychecks during a government shutdown in 2024. It guarantees funding for active-duty military members and their supporting civilian and contractor personnel, as well as critical employees at border security agencies, immigration enforcement, the Transportation Security Administration, air traffic controllers, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. The bill covers a broad range of VA staff including those processing veteran benefits, operating appeals boards, and staffing medical facilities and helplines. These appropriations would remain in effect until either Congress passes regular budget legislation, passes a continuing resolution without funding for these purposes, or the fiscal year ends on October 1, 2024, whichever comes first.
