The Halt the Invasion Act would prohibit the federal government from taking action to regain control of Shelby Park in Eagle Pass, Texas, or interfere with Texas state activities there without Texas's consent. The bill would require the federal government to reimburse Texas annually for the costs of maintaining control of the site, up to what federal costs would have been, with reimbursements due by March 30, 2025 and each year thereafter. The legislation would remain in effect indefinitely as long as Texas provides monthly data on criminal arrests of undocumented immigrants, drug seizures, and other border security information by the 15th of each month. If Texas fails to provide this data for more than two consecutive months, the bill's protections would expire one year after enactment. The bill was referred to the House Judiciary Committee and the House Committee on Homeland Security for consideration.
