The QUIET Act would strengthen federal regulations against deceptive robocalls and text messages by targeting artificial intelligence-generated communications. The bill requires that anyone making an automated call or sending an automated text message using AI to mimic a human voice or identity must disclose this fact at the beginning of the communication. Additionally, the legislation doubles the maximum penalties for violations involving AI impersonation intended to defraud, harm, or wrongfully obtain something of value, including civil forfeitures and criminal fines.
