This bill requires the Department of Defense to submit a comprehensive report within two years examining how well military pregnant women and dependents can access maternal health care. The report must analyze both care provided at military hospitals and clinics as well as care through the TRICARE insurance network, looking at staffing levels, wait times, travel distances, and patient satisfaction. The legislation specifically directs the department to identify areas lacking maternity services, examine challenges military families face when relocating during pregnancy, and document spending on maternal health care over the past decade. The Secretary of Defense must also provide recommendations to improve maternal health services, address staffing shortages of obstetricians and midwives, and ensure pregnant service members and their dependents maintain continuous care even when transferred to new duty stations.
