The Diversify Tech Act establishes a Task Force within the Department of Commerce to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in the technology industry. The Task Force, which must be created within 60 days of the bill's enactment, will consist of officials from various federal agencies plus industry experts and representatives from major tech companies. Within 60 days of formation, the Task Force must conduct an audit examining minority employment rates, hiring practices, and layoff trends in the tech sector, then submit findings to Congress. The Task Force will also advise federal agencies on outreach programs for minority-owned tech startups, monitor treatment of minorities in the industry, and produce public reports every year assessing diversity progress, evaluating how artificial intelligence affects discrimination, and recommending policy solutions. The bill affects large technology companies with over 10 million users or subscribers and requires the Task Force to meet at least quarterly to carry out these duties.
