Additionally, the report must quantify how much money the federal government spends on antimicrobial resistance research, evaluate whether a single central agency should oversee this research, and specifically address federal efforts related to phage therapy, an emerging treatment approach. This legislation does not authorize new spending or establish new programs itself, but rather seeks to assess the current state of federal antimicrobial resistance initiatives to improve their efficiency and effectiveness.
