The legislation requires that this personal needs allowance receive annual cost-of-living adjustments, just like other SSI benefits do, starting in October 2024. Additionally, the bill ensures that when the federal government increases these allowances, states must pass those increases through to their own supplementary SSI payments, so recipients actually receive the full benefit boost. The changes take effect October 1, 2024, and apply to benefit increases for months after September 30, 2024.
