The American Innovation Act authorizes increased federal funding for basic science research across five major agencies from fiscal year 2025 through 2035 and beyond. The National Science Foundation would receive approximately $9.7 billion in 2025, growing to $18.3 billion by 2034, while the Department of Defense science programs would receive $21.9 billion in 2025, growing to $41.1 billion by 2034, with similar increases allocated to the Department of Energy's Office of Science, NASA's Science Mission Directorate, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. After 2035, funding for all agencies would automatically increase annually based on inflation rates. The bill protects these appropriations from budget cuts through sequestration and exempts them from certain budget scoring requirements, ensuring sustained investment in American scientific research and innovation.
