This bill directs the federal government to create a separate industry classification code for janitorial services in health care facilities like hospitals and clinics. Currently, health care facility cleaning is grouped with general janitorial services under a single classification system, which the bill's sponsors believe does not adequately account for the specialized nature and requirements of health care cleaning. The Office of Management and Budget must establish this new classification code within 180 days of the bill becoming law, and the Small Business Administration must then set size standards for businesses in this category within 90 additional days. These size standards determine eligibility for federal small business programs and contracts, and the bill caps the new health care janitorial size standard at no more than double the current standard for general janitorial services. The bill affects small janitorial service companies that clean health care facilities, potentially making more of them eligible for small business support programs and federal contracting opportunities.
