To authorize the Secretary of Health and Human Services, acting through the Administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration, to award grants to expand and improve maternal health care services, and for other purposes.
The Mamas and Babies in Underserved Communities Act of 2024 authorizes the federal government to award grants to health care providers serving low-income and minority communities to expand and improve maternal and infant health services, including prenatal care, postpartum care for mothers, and postnatal care for infants. The grants are intended to improve the quality of these services, enhance health outcomes for women and infants, and reduce health disparities in underserved areas. Priority will be given to organizations that primarily serve these communities, are led by people from the communities they serve, and are located in those communities. Grant recipients must provide culturally and linguistically appropriate care and limit administrative expenses to no more than 10 percent of funds received. The bill authorizes unspecified funding for the program from fiscal years 2025 through 2029, with the actual amount to be determined by Congress during the annual appropriations process.
