The Abortion Care Awareness Act of 2024 directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to run a nationwide public health campaign to inform Americans about how to access abortion and related health services within the bounds of state and federal law. The campaign would include information about where to obtain abortion care through in-person or telehealth options, the legality of medication abortion, how to travel across state lines for abortion services, and how to identify crisis pregnancy centers and misinformation. The bill specifically requires the campaign to be culturally competent and accessible to underserved populations including communities of color, immigrants, people with disabilities, low-income individuals, and rural residents. The campaign cannot promote misinformation about abortion safety, abortion reversal claims, or abstinence-only education programs, and must protect personal privacy by not collecting visitor data. The Secretary would consult with reproductive health experts, nonprofit organizations focused on reproductive rights, and public health departments while carrying out the campaign.
