The Federal Government Equity Improvement Act of 2024 requires federal agencies to establish equity-focused teams and procedures to ensure government services are delivered more fairly across different populations. Each agency must create an Agency Equity Advisory Team with at least 10 senior officials from departments like civil rights, policy development, procurement, and public engagement to coordinate equity improvements. The bill also establishes an Equity Subcommittee within the Performance Improvement Council and creates an Equitable Data Working Group within the Chief Data Officer Council to share best practices on equitable service delivery and data collection across agencies. These new teams and working groups must meet regularly and consult with outside organizations, state and local governments, and the public to identify ways to provide government services more equitably. The Government Accountability Office will evaluate whether these efforts improve equity in federal data collection and program evaluation within four years, and the groups cannot be terminated for at least two years after that evaluation is submitted.
