This bill would require the Secretary of the Interior to finalize a proposed rule removing the Apache trout from the federal endangered species list within 90 days of the bill's enactment. The Apache trout, a fish species native to Arizona, has been federally protected as endangered for decades, but recovery efforts have reportedly allowed the population to rebound sufficiently for delisting consideration. The rule the bill references was already proposed by the Fish and Wildlife Service in August 2023 but has not yet been finalized through the standard regulatory process. Removing the species from the endangered list would reduce federal protections and regulatory restrictions on activities affecting the fish and its habitat. The bill was introduced by three Arizona House Republicans and referred to the Committee on Natural Resources.
