To require the Secretary of Health and Human Services to establish a program to award grants for providing to or developing for schools and youth-serving organizations educational resources or training on preventing teen dating violence, and for other purposes.
The Teen Dating Violence Prevention Act directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to establish a grant program that funds schools and youth-serving organizations to create or provide educational resources and training on preventing teen dating violence and building healthy relationships. Eligible recipients include community-based organizations, school districts, youth programs, faith-based organizations, and after-school providers that can demonstrate experience or capacity in this area. The grants would support developing educational materials, training teachers and school staff to recognize and respond to dating violence, hosting workshops for students and parents, and recruiting professionals with expertise in domestic and sexual violence. The bill authorizes ten million dollars annually for fiscal years 2025 through 2029 to support these programs, with the Department of Health and Human Services required to establish the program within 180 days of the law's enactment. Any organization receiving funds must ensure staff are properly trained and involve violence prevention experts and school leaders in designing the educational resources.
