This bill would delay the start of that waiting period until after their elected term officially expires, effectively extending the lobbying ban for members who resign before their term ends. The change would apply to anyone leaving Congress on or after the bill's enactment date. The legislation is intended to prevent members from resigning early to immediately begin lobbying work while their replacement is still in office.
