This bill amends federal family leave laws to allow employees to take additional unpaid leave to participate in their children's and grandchildren's school activities and educational programs. Eligible employees would receive up to eight hours of leave per 30-day period, capped at 48 hours per 12-month period, to attend school conferences, sporting events, scouting activities, and other programs sponsored by schools or community organizations. The bill applies to private sector workers covered by the Family and Medical Leave Act and to federal government employees, with workers required to provide at least seven days' notice when possible. Employees can use their accrued paid vacation, personal, or sick leave to cover this parental involvement leave, and employers cannot impose stricter conditions on this leave than those set by law.
